the main factor was "continuous incompetence," though he was incompetent in particular ways which doomed the GOP as a cohesive organization.
the main one was going all-in with the neocons and trying to tell the ron paul "fringe" to fuck off. but you can only do that if you WIN the wars you start.
bush didn't.
then he rammed through a series of pricey "compassionate conservative" initiatives like no child left behind and medicare d which created a lot of unease before his coup de grace with the banker bailouts in 2008.
he mismanaged things so badly that the party became vulnerable to an overthrow, which was staved off for a while but finally happened this year. |
