"so so glad I didn't breast feed so I could DRINK ALCOHOL WITH HUBBY" LOL.

even my friends who are huge drunks/married to wino women didn't do this. staying sober for a few months is no big deal unless you are total DEGENERATE material.

she claims to spend no more than a handful of hours performing honest to god work every day. she actually boasted that she spends more time online shopping than practicing law when she's on the clock.

of course that was in one of the threads were she had about a dozen posts complimenting and defending herself with one of her pumo accounts, so she's not exactly credible.

You can always pump-and-dump.

Which, in the normal, non-XO universe, means pumping your breastmilk before you go out to get hammered.

That's what most wino moms I know do (and I know very few people who are as tethered to alcohol as new mothers of young children).

my friend's wife did this like 2x the whole time feeding kid. you don't really have time for long restaurant meals + booze or going to bars as a new mom.

so nutella = alkie as fuck.

Eh, I know plenty of new moms who just bring their kid along to the restaurant meals. New moms don't go to bars, but if we do mom-friendly stuff like extended lunches/brunches (i.e. drinking in the daytime), I find that my new mom friends can easily join us.

I also think Nutella has her mom helping out with childcare, which makes a huge difference over moms who are doing it alone without help from a grandparent or full-time nanny.

There are restaurants where this would work, and there are restaurants where this wouldn't work.

If the child is a legit newborn, you're right - probably doesn't work - but I've had early extended brunches/lunches in noncrowded restaurants with new moms and it hasn't been an issue as long as the restaurant is somewhat empty and stroller-friendly.

No, just places that are small and narrow and don't have a lot of space between tables. Or places where you have to carry your stroller up or down a few stairs.

Basically the things you don't think about unless you broke your leg are the same things you think about when you're lugging a stroller everywhere.

A cafe here got into trouble for trying to actually ban strollers because of anti discrimination laws. They can't ban them but I wouldn't go to a small cafe that couldn't really fit strollers when there are plenty of places that can fit them and some that positively encourage mothers with strollers.

Yeah probably. I mean breast feeding is natural and is the mothers primary source of nourishment for her baby. Most mothers who have trouble breast feeding or producing milk feel like failures which is silly because formula provides all the nutrients a baby needs and is basically just as good. However I don't think anyone is actually happy about not being able to breast feed.

they're both aspie-ish dorks in the mid 30s upwardly mobile striver circuit. all of those people are casually reliant on alcohol because they have zero personality without it. they couch it all as being big fans of bold IPAs and peaty scotch, but it really just boils down to needing booze to lubricate their socialization and overcome their devastatingly boring intellects.

it's not terribly different than how the same set obsessively spends on travel and documents every moment of it. nothing particularly interesting about you? hey check out these pictures of me in south africa? wanna hear about what it's like there!?

that is fair. most people are also in denial about why and how much they use alcohol. i say this as a drinkmo who has probably been unhealthy with it at times.

people who take some kind of latent pride in being a 'drinker' and are eager to let you know they like to knock a few back or they can really hold their liquor are almost always on the alcoholism slow-ride highway that starts wrecking lives in mid-late 30s and 40s.

nah. that's drinking culture mythology. the majority of the people on this planet don't routinely drink alcohol and there are huge no-drink populations in even the booziest cultures. drinking alcohol doesn't make you more human. it makes you a person who likes how they feel when they drink alcohol. many people grow to need on some level.

Drinking with other people is a social ritual and aside from the effects of alcohol it's a way to socialize just like sharing a meal.

No, quotemo is right about this. Pretending alcohol is essential to culture is horseshit propagated by drinking enthusiasts. I love drinking but it's idiotic and potentially destructive to try to rationalize the habit.

Other than in the Middle East and sometimes India, drinking is ingrained in most cultures in both business and social settings. Drinking vodka in Russia is part of business meetings; similarly in Japan and Korea, drinking sake/soju is part of the after-hours aspect of doing business.

Continental Europe tends to drink less (or at least not binge drink) but they drink more frequently. The Anglosphere tends to binge drink. The Chinese will drink whatever is overpriced and douchey in order to signal status, though this could be a more recent phenomenon.

In most of the world, at least some regular consumption of alcohol is normalized.

this is correct. it is normalized, though relationships with alcohol vary vastly across cultures. your description is very accurate. chinese also use drinking for social bonding, and toast incessantly, like every time they sip

You can bf and drink but you need to time it so that your blood alcohol has dropped before it's time to feed again. In practice this means limiting yourself to a glass of wine immediately after a feeding or planning ahead to use expressed milk for the next feed.

Breastfeeding bonds child to mother. In the very least, babies three months and under should ideally be fed only breast milk. Advantages of eating plenty of plant-based foods while breastfeeding include passing along plant-based omega-3, which has been shown to improve children’s intelligence. Babies can pick up a taste for vegetables, even strong-tasting foods like broccoli, through breastfeeding and keep that fondness for the vegetable even after breastfeeding ends.

Pollutants found in processed foods that a mother consumes while breastfeeding may be directly transferred to her child. Unfortunately, there has been a recent spike of PBDEs (flame retardant chemicals) in breast milk. Toxins such as PCB , more concentrated in foods derived from animals higher on the food chain, tend to accumulate in breast milk. The breast milk of vegetarians appear to have significantly lower levels of PCBs, DDT, and dioxins than that those on a standard American diet.

A breastfeeding mother who drinks cow’s milk can pass onto her child the cow’s casomorphin protein, which in rare cases may cause respiratory distress and infant apnea in the infant. Baby formulas based on cow’s milk introduce infants to a drink that is meant to grow a baby calf at 40 times the rate of a human child, which may help explain increased obesity rates among formula-fed children.

Breastfeeding vegans must be sure to get adequate Vitamin B12 (see also here, here) and iodine to ensure the health of their baby.
