study abroad = people from TTT ug go to oxford for one term, get access to student facilities and maybe 2 hours of tutor time a week for US style fees. great cash cow. |

Many (most?) study-abroad programs are run by individual colleges, which may contract out the use of their their dining hall, etc. to programs which are not even taught by Oxford faculty or staff (or if they are, it's done so on a moonlighting basis to pick up a few extra quid on the side--this is actually pretty common to be fair) run by third parties. Half the students are dipshit Bougie legacies, another quarter are diversity colonial guilt admits, and then maybe a quarter are actually talented, although they're coming out of a relatively small pool that is far less competitive than US schools. The admission standards are a lot weaker than most other Western and Norther Euro elite schools but the age and British presumed prestige tradition of Oxbridge means they still get the most attention and slight recognition since even many proles have heard of them. Overall very unimpressive unless you're dealing with a hard science major or one of the few remaining handful of intense classical liberal arts majors.
