Bismarck is a huge example of a 19th century establishment aristocrat who used economically interventionist programs to co-opt socialists and other radicals. One-nation conservatism by Disraeli is also pretty renowned. basically the idea is that to show that they were good keeds that dindeserv to get overthrown and executed, elites would show their good patronage to the needy of the country
this is somewhat arcane for American audiences though. just look up Progressive Era and New Deal. FDR was a patrician who saved capitalism by reforming it |
