Figure I can learn to read Japanese in 3/4 years and just do that and travel the world. Going to work everyday just seems like dying a slow death.

There are online classes that come with online skype tutors. Stuff like Japanesepod101

Also, approximately 2 hours a day. 4 hours on Sat and Sun.

Once you learn to write Japanese the rest is easy. Met a bro a few years ago that does this. He works about 6 months out of the year and travels the world. There are remote doc review shit for those fluent in Japan that pay 100 per hour. I'd have no problem doing that from Starbucks 6 months per year so I could travel. 9-5 at Fed is killing me.

GL bro- I'm versed in the remote legal work market and this seems as decent a plan as any. I'd be worried about this work getting automated/outsourced before you're qualified to take it on, but that could be said about many jobs i suppose.

Sorry but not going to happen for you. The average Japanese student learns and memorizes something like 15,000 Chinese characters. You can learn the basics to speak and hit on girls, but good luck in the business world if you can't read Chinese characters.

15,000 is off by an order of magnitude. not even scholars of ancient chinese would know that many. I would guess 10K is the max a human has ever known, and nos. 10001-15K are trivially minor variations OR not chinese at all (wasei kanji, khitan script, etc.)

Again, you get the point. Japanese kids are exposed to and learn thousands of Chinese characters throughout the entirety of their schooling.

There is a shit-ton of Chinese characters used in professional fields like law, which even average Japanese natives have no idea the meaning of.
