They were exposed to Greek culture more early and more often.

Greeks were exposed to civilizations on the eastern med more early and more often, and those cultures probly got their start by interacting with the Middle East/Egypt.

If Britain were a couple more hundred miles west the celts would've been fucked up come 1500 same as the aztecs or mayans

Rome had closer ties to Mediterranean and near-eastern cultures while Celts, Germans, etc were in the sticks.

Also, the Romans spoke an Indo-European ("aryan") language.

Civilization started in Mesopotamia, moved to Egypt and Greece and then Rome. Gauls and Germans were farther out in the frontier and isolated from the main water trade routes (the Mediterranean). It's much easier to ship goods and people and knowledge over the water than it is to send it over the alps. This is why there were Greco-roman settlwments in places like Marseilles and Spain early on, but not up in Gaul, Germany or Britain until Rome went through the slog of civilizing them the hard way.
