i laugh at people who take their job for granted. An employer will fire you if they find someone that will work for less. Don't fall for dumb things like 100 percent 401k matching, paid time off, promises of advancement or salary increases. LOL just LOL at you if you think you can "negotiate" a better deal with your employer. At the end, you are making him rich. You are getting peanuts, while he profits. Get the picture, sparky?

I really experienced this for the first time in one of my first jobs out of college at a tech startup (had just gone through Series B). Within months of starting, I noticed an unusually high turnover in people all over the company, but especially in my department. Trite explanations were usually given, like "just wasn't the right fit for him," etc. Then they'd plug the hole with a fresh body.

I was fired shortly thereafter for similarly vague reasons, no real issues with my performance or anything.

they are running some sort of scheme / scam and cant have anyone stay around long enough to catch on. this is common.

I was at a reception for Schulte Roth my 1L summer. Met a SA who bragged about working directly with partners on matters. She's now doing a LLM at my law school--she was let go after one year.
