E.g. Texas has business and engineering programs that place as well as other state flagships and any private school outside the USNWR top 8 or so (i.e. as well or better than a lesser ivy like Brown) plus you’re competing against weaker competition. Their liberal arts honors place really well into law school and humanities grad school, too. But CS at UT is a rancid TTT compared to most other national big state u flagships. A better knock on Texas is that the network you will get is MUCH more useful in Texas v. anywhere else, so going there out of state makes less sense if you don’t want to move there permanently. It was an awesome place, and for my personality at the time, it might have been the absolute best choice. But what I didn't consider at the time was just how lacking the social scene was. Yes, there were a few hot girls. But at other schools, you can walk outside and basically trip over hot girls. Hot girls who are also competitive and insecure because they are in such ample supply. Hot girls who are actually looking to hook up.
I think the absolute ideal would be if Harvard were located in a warmer climate, near, but not too near, to a BIGSTATEU. Then, the Harvard guys could go over there to party, pick up hot chicks, etc. |
