They let you know when HR has taken a look at your application. I've applied to dozens of jobs and the application is barely ever even looked at, and I have a decent pedigree.

When my company posts jobs to LinkedIn it's a fake job posting. We look at the resumes, we tell the ones we like to apply to our real job posting on the online job system.

HR says everything has to go through our online system. but it gets more views on LinkedIn if we do it as a LinkedIn job post.

Something similar has happened to me before when applying through "networking." I was put in to contact immediately with HR with a phone screen, etc. And they had me sort of retroactively apply to their taleo system for official purposes. LJL.

All online job apps just go in the toilet, bro. You have to know hiring managers or at least have a recruiter in your corner.

Fuck that. You show up at the office and demand to see the hiring manager and tell him "I am the man for this job." They will be impressed by your moxie and give you the job right away.

Networking is everything. My resume is legit 10/10 for every job I apply to on LinkedIn, and I still only have like a 10% hit rate.

Be aggressive and just hit people up via cold email or LinkedIn instead. I just sent out 10 last week and already have numerous interviews this week. Applying online is dangerous since it lulls you into feeling like you’re accomplishing shit when you’re really not.

Basically

Hi, I notice you’re [position] at [company]. [sentence on our shared school/professional/other connection, however remote]. I am reaching out because I’d love to learn more about [x].

[hard sell the fuck out of myself in three sentences]

[ask for a quick call whenever they have a chance]

It’s taken me a while to tailor this so it includes enough attention grabbing detail without being too long. My hit rate is astonishingly high with this version, though who knows whether these leads will end up in a sweet job

Don’t be self-conscious about cold emailing (you can even throw in a “sorry to email out of the blue” into your email). look at it as a 0 downside, high upside proposition. And don’t take it personally if/when people don’t respond.
