Calishitlawguru is an anomaly clearly. no way i can quit my job and find a way, after a full year to ramp up, to make 250k+. THERE ARE TONS OF PI ATTYS - each fighting for the same clients. Other fields are just as bad.

I don't really think I'm an anomaly because of some inherent trait I have that other's don't. I just figured out the best system for doing what I do. Anyone can do it who has the balls to just make the plunge and the patience to give it 100% for a year. The reason a lot of PI attorneys fail is because their systems for running cases and bringing in business are terrible.
For example, I subbed out an attorney on a 10 million dollar case that I am doing with Nick Rowley. The client fired the old attorney because she didn't return the client's phone calls. That will be my biggest fee ever when it settles, likely seven figures. All because the shitty prior lawyer didn't know how to run her business.
Edit: If you dropped me in another city in California where I knew no one (for example San Diego), I could get back to where I am in a few years doing the same shit I'm doing now.

Here is a quick cliff notes version of stuff I have already posted.
1. Buy 2000 business cards from Vista Print. Every time you meet a new person (no matter the situation), make sure you bring up the fact you are an attorney that does PI. A good way to do this is ask them what they do. They will in turn, ask you too. Give them a good story (or just make one up) of a memorable PI case. Hand them a business card. This is where I get the majority of my business. This is a numbers game. I probably have 10,000 cards floating out in LA right now. Even if you get a 5% rate of return you get tons of business. It's just a numbers game (just like hitting on girls).
2. Networking with attorneys is usually a waste of time. You are better off networking with normal people who will actually give you their cases. Some great places are bars, gyms, uber drivers, hair salons, waiters, your personal doctors (and their staff), clubs, and pretty much anywhere where you meet a high volume of people in a short period of time. I mentored someone who is going to make 400-500K this year and most of his business was from girls he hit on and got shot down by at clubs. He always got them a business card though. That was 90% of his business development (and he is a shitty attorney).
3. Become a subject matter expert and give talks at sororities/frats. I gave about 20 talks at UCLA over 2 years and handed out my cards to about 1,000 students during those talks.
4. Network with tow truck drivers, body shops, and insurance agents. I'm sure you can figure out what needs to be done on this one.
5. Don't waste money on Yoddle, AVVO, SEO consulting, Google PPC or any other online marketing that charges. Unless you are going to spend 50K+ per month, there are lots of other people out there who will outspend you and you will not make money.

If anyone here thinks they can be him easily, they are wrong. His personality is the opposite of an average poaster.
1. CSLG is literally the smartest guy in his field. He is smarter (via academic credentials) and harder working than 99.99% of PI attorneys.
2. He is very charismatic and sociable, unlike almost everyone here. He instills confidence in his clients.
3. He is incredibly organized.

i make 100k, CSLG is going to make 1.5k +
There are numbers in between that
I don't need to be CSLG or even close to be a successful solo
a dude who has been where I work for 30 years showed me his salary, it's only like 130k plus good benefits, that's depressing

Calishitlawguru,
please respond to his HYPO:
You are quitting your job in 60 days. You don't have too much experience in the PI field. Your 2,000 business cards arrived today. You haven't set up a website yet. What do you do in the next 60 days and in the 60 days after you launch your solo biz to maximize the potential for immediate or near-immediate success?
