Because the bonuses are variable. That range will actually increase over time.

If you know what our comp structure is then you should know exactly why I wrote it that way. Assume the target is in the middle of that range. EDIT: you might know someone who is a lower band that doesn't get LTI. LTI is the key factor here. Though, STI is variable too.

Depends on what you mean by "below the head of my area." There are parts of my area that I'm the head of. 2 people between me and the GC. It is a huge megacorp legal department. Also, for this band/title it isn't an unusual comp package. A similar band non-lawyer who is retiring makes ~500k.

Now, the only thing to keep in mind is that I won't get all $300-400k this year. Quite a bit will be paid in stock that vests over however many years (generally 3). And quite a bit will be paid at the end of the year in bonus.
