They like it because it's a smaller number of people to convince initially and because it makes "his" people do it. If you can get the Cabinet to OK it first, you're much more likely (I think, at least) to get 2/3 House and 2/3 Senate to ratify the removal than you are to succeed at traditional impeachment.
Basically, it's inviting Congress to just shrug and say "well, if the Cabinet doesn't want him, who are we to disagree?"
