1) no actual athlete considers their sport "cardio", boxers, soccer players, basketball players all jog, jump rope, or do road work because they know their sport is not working the aerobic system
2) The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) defines aerobic exercise as "any activity that uses large muscle groups, can be maintained continuously, and is rhythmic in nature." By your own admission, basketball is not maintained continuously because you are stopping and going and being subbed in and out

"In almost all conditions, anaerobic exercise is accompanied by aerobic exercises because the less efficient anaerobic metabolism must supplement the aerobic system due to energy demands that exceed the aerobic system's capacity. What is generally called aerobic exercise might be better termed "solely aerobic", because it is designed to be low-intensity enough not to generate lactate via pyruvate fermentation, so that all carbohydrate is aerobically turned into energy."

LJL Charles just completely and utterly pwned retard OP.
I think it went unnoticed because so many people were too frustrated at OP's IQ to keep reading.
Also OP, actual athletes do pure cardio because it helps them at the margins, which makes a big difference. Your argument is like saying 8-12 reps isn't strength training because real lifters stick to 6 reps and lower. Or yoga doesn't help muscle mobility because gymnists do pure stretching exercises. Or squats don't work quads because there are better pure quad exercises. Or a phd econ dude doesn't do calculus because he isn't a math major.

Of course it’s a form of cardio.
You run a lot.
Are sprints not a form of cardio because you stop at times?
Is running not cardio if a ball is involved?
You’re raising your heart rate through running.

as usual you are the most retarded, bro-science, profoundly autistic poster on XO.
a guy who plays basketball 2-3X weekly will be in significantly better cardio shape than a guy who doesn't. you're so dumb and bizarre that I'm ready to switch over to the crowd who thinks you're 100% long game flame with your health and fitness posting.

walking is cardio
hiit really isn't cardio if you're doing it right because if you are doing a real max effort; your body is utilizing atp for fuel and can sustain a max effort for about 30 seconds; cardio is about working the aerobic system (with oxygen); HIIT isn't fueled by oxygen but by ATP + glucose (in other words aerobic --> oxygen + fat (primarily) --> cardio or anaerobic --> glucose + atp (primarily) --> interval training/stop and go like in sports) hiit/stop and go and walking are apples and oranges and work two different energy systems
"cardio" is aerobic which primarily relies on fat and some glucose (anytime you move a muscle you're using glucose)

1) how intense are you walking?
2) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAID_principle
if everything you do is explosive and anaerobic (not a bad thing) than you'll be conditioned for that; that said, you probably aren't going to be able to wake up tomorrow and run a marathon at a respectable pace, and i think marathons are stupid FYI; you can suck at marathons and people think you're impressive but you can't suck at sprinting. your body adapts to what you train it to do, if you train to be fast and explosive, you can run up and down the court, if you train to be a marathoner, you can jog for several hours without stopping

to be fair,
this is cr
but to get to high level anerobic levels you need high level aerobic levels. i'll make it simple - if you want to dominate in bball etc you need to have high levels of stamina developed from consistent, lengthy aerobic sessions - jogging for long periods of time etc. stop and go sprinting during games doesn't develop that, it only reflects it.

Jesus, has a poster ever done more to ruin his reputation in a single thread?
I recognize the RCP90 moniker but never had any opinion on him before this thread. Now I will forever think of him as a stubborn moron.
Sorry, bro.

All activity longer than ~15 seconds is at least partly aerobic. If you're breathing harder than usual at all, you're using your aerobic system. Anaerobic literally means "without oxygen".
It's so crude and simplistic to believe that there's only two types of training, aerobic and anaerobic. The body is so much more complex than that. Elite aerobic athletes train in at least five training bands.
1. UT2
Light aerobic, low intensity work. Sustainable and fat burning.
General CV fitness.
Relaxed. Able to carry on a conversation.
2. UT1
Heavy aerobic work using more oxygen.
Higher level of CV fitness.
Working. Feel warmer. Heart rate and respiration up. May sweat.
3. Anaerobic Threshold.
Harder work. On the aerobic limit. Pushing into anaerobic area.
High level of CV fitness. Building mental and physical tolerance.
Hard work. Heart rate and respiration up. Carbon dioxide build up. Sweating. Breathing hard.
4. Oxygen Transportation.
Working hard. Unsustainable for long periods.
Developing oxygen transport to the muscles under stress. Increasing cardiac output.
Stressed. Panting. Sweating freely.
5. Anaerobic (without oxygen). Short bursts of maximum effort. Unsustainable.
Burning carbohydrate.
