I think we get a standard amount of matching for the Thrift Savings Plan, but the FERS defined benefit plan is what is really nice. I'll get paid 1k/year for each year of my service when I hit 59- around 30k/year, purely as a bonus on top of my TSP.

Congress would be gutting the benefits of their own staff members, plus they would be creating huge political pressure to gut their own Congressional retirement benefits. I've seen the proposals by the conservative groups- they just nibble around the edges at the benefits and even those proposals don't actually become law.
