what about xo older millenials talking shit about younger millenials because they use different cutoff years for generations than everyone else discussing the topic

millenials are anyone born after 1990. Those in the 80s who call themselves millenials need to killself.

wikipedia says "early 1980s" are the start, and the article has several examples of early usage of the term consistent with this

Us 80s bros are technically millennials but we really don't deserve to be lumped in with the 90s freaks

nobody in particular. but the "baby boom" happened after the war, which ended in 1945. the first wave of babies came in 1946. also, the 1982 cohort got the label "millennials" because they graduated HS and turned 18 in 2000.

are there significant differences between people born in those years and the year afterwards? or is it just that you have to put the cutoffs somewhere and you think your system is slightly better than the one you replied to?

there are probably socially significant differences between the '45 and '46 kids by virtue of having a boom of other children their exact age entering school/adulthood at the same time. bigger classes, more competition among the same cohort for opportunities, etc. much less so for gen x/millennials - it's just where the cutoffs go.
