I went tier 3 business tech consulting -> F500 Data analytics -> back office at a hedge fund, doing 'data analytics', which is glorified excel / sql monkey work. I honestly feel that doing my job is intellectually less challenging than learning 7th grade algebra.
The thing is, all the jobs prior to this position, have also been ridiculously mind numbing bitch work. Yet, they're paying me pretty good money..
My pay: 140k base, year end bonus, good 401k match, etc. 7-8 years work experience.
I say that for mediocre students with middling skills and intellect, one great way to make decent money without much hassle or trouble is to do back office work. Such as tech consulting (Accenture, etc) or even accounting at big4 would lead you to six figures with some work experience.
As for me, I am planning on going for mba. Just got my gmat score. (above 700) My reason for wanting to do MBA? Because I feel like my brain is rotting away and I believe I am capable of accomplishing more. I have this burning desire to get the fuck out of back office non sense.
AMA - about this career trajectory, how to get in, or whatever. happy to answer any questions

Expensive but not NYC city, 170K income, automatic 10% 401K contribution
JD, 5 years of experience, practiced law for 6 months and got laid off, did nothing for 6 months, then started at the rock fucking bottom of my current field
JD advantage job, after 4 years I got an offer that paid more and my current company BEAT that offer to keep me, which artificially increased my salary even more, so it's unusually high but the outcome has been nice

yup, as with anything, it's a numbers game. if you have some decent understanding of relational databases, some basic stats knowledge, and strong interviewing skills, you should get something. it may take a while, but you will get it.
this job market is interesting - I've been turned down for jobs paying less than 100k, while sometimes getting offers over 130k, for equivalent positions requiring similar skillset, just at different companies. work on polishing your resume, get in touch with recruiters on linkedin, and see what happens.

HR Director.
9 to 5 processing job applications, reviewing and saving performance reviews, collecting paperwork from new hires, playing diversity videos, and asking the legal department to do literally any of your hard work.
