Why would anyone like INTPs?
INTP’s are a relatively small percentage of the population, only 2.5%. Female INTPs like myself are even rarer, comprising only 1% of the population. INTPs can be difficult to understand, but we have several strengths:
Analysis. INTPs excel at looking under the surface and discovering things that might not be readily apparent. They want to understand the hidden factors and explore all possibilities. When an INTP has studied a situation, you can be sure they understand it very well.
Rationality. INTPs make decisions using empirical methods, trying to base them on what experience and understanding show are the methods most likely to produce the desired outcome. This doesn’t necessarily mean they are just interested in “cold facts”. Emotions, traditions, and non-rational factors are facts just as much as data. But an INTP will not let these factors determine a decision when it would likely result in an outcome different from the one desired.
Perception. Because INTPs are perceivers, they are able to combine their insights with analysis and rationality to understand how different people can see an issue from another viewpoint. They excel at “putting themselves in the other person’s shoes.” This can make them empathetic and able to facilitate helping people understand differing views.
Unconventional. INTPs, while considering tradition as a factor, refuse to be constrained by tradition alone. They are willing to break with the past, flaunt convention, and seek new answers. For an INTP, saying “We’ve always done it this way” is a red flag that whatever is being done could be improved.
Persistence. INTP’s are slow to make decisions because they want to analyze a matter thoroughly. However, once they have made the decision that seems the most rational, they are not easily dissuaded and will pursue their decision through thick and thin.
