Avg salaries were higher plus houses were dirt cheap.
My dad made something like 700K in today's dollars back then but housing cost maybe 1/4 in today's dollars. Now that same job probably pays 200K and housing is 4 times as much as it used to be.
In other words, the American dream is dead.
