EVERYONE thinks the AO is by far the least prestigious major. In fact, internal polling on xo shows that subbing an AO for any other major in a haul of 3 majors almost always decreases the value of that 3-major set. Indeed, the greatest value to the AO is getting the career Grand Slam. It's like the PGA Championship in Golf. Nobody wants more than 1 from a hypothetical perspective.
But now he claims the AO is the "Truest Test" and severely overvalues it for no other reason than the fact that Nadal has only won it once. If Nadal had 3 AO's and 1 USO, you can be damn sure he'd be praising the USO instead. I, on the other hand, as a noted Agassi fan, have been quick to point out that a big black mark on Agassi's resume is that 50% of his majors came in Australia.
This also causes him to undervalue RG and clay titles in general. RG in recent years has become THE KEY to greatness. Agassi, Federer and Djokovic were desperate to win it, and it was easily one of the very top moments of their careers. Sampras would have loved to win one, but he didn't have the game for it. And McEnroe said he'll never go down as one of the all-time greats because he blew the RG final to Lendl in 84.
DBG, you can do better than this. Keep your tennis poasting objective. Stick to bashing Nadal when he's actually playing. |

yes, Nalbandain with a TOTAL of 2 hardcourt major semifinals to his name, and only 2 harcourt masters titles (both indoor during the post-USO swing, not surprisingly) is a better hc player than a 4x hc major champion
