Florence is wonderful, definitely go.

I only spent 1 day in Tuscany at a winery.

Amalfi was beautiful, but I was a bit bored. I could see it being a better trip when I have kids and want to relax. After like a day of being there I was wishing I were back in Rome or in a different Italian city.

I'm thinking Rome then Tuscany then Florence then end at Amalfi and then fly out

I think you'll probably have to eventually end up back in Rome to take the flight back home. I don't think the airports in Southern Italy fly internationally

Personally I'd rather do City-Amalfi-City

It's better for flying in and out, and I've found that I hate being go-go on my vacation and then ending on a dud.

Have you thought about Sicily?

I was thinking like go to a vineyard in Tuscany for a couple days after rome, then Florence after Tuscan vineyard, then end in Amalfi

But maybe its smarter to end in Rome and fly out

if only 1 week i'd personally stick to two spots, not 3. imo Rome needs 4 days, and while Florence can be done in 2, 3 is better.

if you're at 9 full days then stretch to 3 spots

you can take day trips to Tuscany from Florence, that's what we did

you will likely need to fly out of Rome

Rome is far away - can you fly somewhere more convenient - Bologna maybe? I did a week trip flying in and out of Pisa (which is a shitty little airport but it's good if you are flying from somewhere else in Europe) and it worked really well. Picked up a car there, drove to Cinque Terre, then around Tuscany for a few days then to Florence, then back to Pisa. No individual drive was more than 3 hours.

Those are two different trips.

Florence /Tuscany / Siena / Lucca is one.

Amalfi is another. There's no point in trying to cram Amalfi into a separate trip. It's a pain in the ass to get to and you'll never appreciate it with 2 days there. While there you can easily to Capri, herculaneum, Pompeii, etc.

Both trips are great but you have to veto the combination.

Florence to Amalfi is a 6 hour drive no traffic

Might work if we just skip Rome. Land in Rome, go directly to Florence. Spend 3/4 days there then Amalfi and 3/4 days there

Rome to Naples by train, spend 1 day copping DAT Da Michele and Di Matteo, then stop in Pompeii and Herculaneum on your way to some combination of Positano, Ravello and Capri.

Sounds like you're in for a lot of shrew IG photos, is that really how you want to spend presumably your whole summer vaca time?

Positano is picturesque and nice for a few days, although HORDES of NOWAGS will be there by day for pictures. There's a club called music on the rocks. Ravello is beautiful and very chill. Capri you can spend time on the water, lunch at beach clubs and have some chill dinners. If you could go to Capri and Ravello alone and get a group together to rent a villa in Capri that would be CR.

Yes CR for families. Naples is a run down shithold run by the mafia, but they have some dope pizza. If you're a pizzamo also check out Dar Poeta and Ai Marmi in Rome, they're both in Trastavere which is where you'll want to drink. If you are looking for a nice hotel in Rome outside the normal luxury hotels, most of which are overpriced and not so great, check out HT6. It's a boutique in a (((historic))) area near the river. They gave me a baller duplex suite for like $125/night last summer.

One of my top five days of my life was renting vespas with my bros and riding around Rome.

Hitting a vespa with a car in Rome is basically strict liability, so you can fucking do anything with them: run red lights, ride on the sidewalk, doesn't matter.

We were bored as fuck in Florence. You can only go to so many fucking museums. By the time we hit Florence we were museumed-out and just wanted to party and bang hot Italians chicks and there was none of that going on in Florence. Boomer paradise.

The recs ITT are pretty good but fuck going to Italy in August. I would avoid places that are going to be full of bug tourists. (Venice is HELL in August, as is Amalfi.) Would fly into Milan and spend the first day/night there. (See the Duomo, do some shopping if everything isn't closed.) The next AM I would take the train to Como/Maggiore for 2 nights. I'd then train back to Milan and fly to Rome for 3 days then come home. I think this route also would work in reverse (flying into Rome then leaving from Milan.)

If you can stay longer, would consider doing a drive from Milan to Cinque Terre to Florence, then flying to Rome. But that's a lot of moving around. You would need like 6 trips to see the different parts of Italy. (Milan/Como/Cinque Terra; Venice/Bologna/Florence/Tuscany; Venice; Rome/Naples; Amalfi Coast; Sicily)

Sicily is great, you can go Mt Etna and see for miles. Had the best olives in Sicily.

Pompeii is 180 and a whole day.

Rome is great, and nightlife is awesome. Do 3-4 days Rome, there is lots to see.

Lake Como is gorgeous(George), but thats like a 5 day thing.

Take a boat tour through the Croatia islands, start in Split finish in Dubrovnik.

do Plitvices. Its an awkward in and out, but worth it.

damn, wish i was going..
