First time there.

Saturday to Following Sunday---week of Thanksgiving.

Staying very near the Passy Metro in the 16th ARR.

Friends/Colleagues have told me to go to London or some other city. 8 days is too long they say.

Looking at just the tourist stuff (Louvre/ND/Orsay/Arc de Triomphe/Sac ocreu/ eiffel etc) it looks like there is a shit ton to do?

Also, I want to spend some time sitting in a cafe, drinking, reading a book and then just getting lost in Montremarte or the Left Bank or whatever.

Am I dumb to spend the entire week in just Paris? (furthest I think I will venture is Versailles)

No, you can spend weeks there and not run out of stuff to do. Especially if you like history. I would have liked 2 days for Versailles alone.

Eight days probably too little, especially because you're going to fall into the leisurely pace of Parisian lifestyle.

The tourist loop that you describe is basically along the river and can be accomplished in a day or two depending on how much time you spend at each site and how much walking you can tolerate

Would definitely throw a day in Versailles into the middle or beginning

For perspective, art students will spend a month in Paris on the louvre alone. History students can be similar with respect to Versailles.

I also enjoy the Luxembourg gardens.

Week in Paris is great. There’s so much to see and do, and yeah just hang out and wander around. Definitely go to Versailles, and if you really run out of things to do (you won’t) Chartres is a great town with an incredible cathedral an hour away by train

8 days based in Paris is not ridiculous. I lived there for a year and there’s still more to do. Versailles is only 40ish minutes from the city Center and worth a full day to go explore. Also a day trip to Fontainblue 30 mins) and Monets house (you can walk around the Lilly pond) is def worth it....with the travel day when you get there/leave, you’re really only talking about 5 days in the city itself, which is a good amount of time.

Yeah I'm not on board with this switching hotels advice. Every time I've gone I've stayed near Monmartre because it's close to Gare du Nord and convenient to getting pretty much anywhere in the city. The subway system is excellent, I see no point in switching hotels/Airbnbs

If you are worried about spending too oafishly long of a time in Paris, spice it up with day trips. Go to Versailles one day, and go to other French cities on other days. Take like 3 day trips.

You don't need to go as far as London.

It totally depends on you, but you said you wanted to chill so a week will be fine. One of the cool things I did was hit that bakery down from the Arc early on a weekday morning, order a croissant and cafe o lait, and watch the beautiful Parisians line up for their morning baguette then rush off to work with it under their arm. I dont know why, but it just made me feel good about the world.

Do I need a metro pass? I live in Manhattan and enjoy walking here. I sometimes walk to work which is like 60 blocks.

Also I hear the Chinese tourists are annoying AF. Ya think hordes of them come November?
