3.5 - 5.1 sec depending on motor(s).

https://3.tesla.com/model3/design#battery

I have the slowest one but it feels quicker than my BMW 335. The BMW pulls a bit harder for a couple thousand RPM in the peak power band, but the Tesla is overall quicker.

Have one. Love it. Sticker was $58k with full self-driving, but after $10k tax credit Fed+CA, really only $48k. Dual motor is another $3k but wasn't available when I got mine. Definitely worth it vs. some 340i BMW or whatever.

Have to wait until Q4 at least to get the small battery $35k version.

Saves you $2k. 3 vs. 5 grand. Should see some FSD features roll out later this year. Smart summon to pick you up and drop you off at front of house and then park itself in your garage. Also auto park in a large shopping center parking lot after dropping you off at front of store.

A bit cheaper than the BMW, but drives better. No gear changes. Full power instantly available at any time. Maintenance is much less of a hassle. No fluids to replace. No transmission. Brakes last 3x longer with regen braking. Very quiet. Never have to carry a key. Can turn on your AC remotely from the app at any time. Can have the car remotely back in and out of tight spots.

Just a shit ton of features that you don't think about or only get on like a 7 series plus new ones added every few months. The whole car interface is much smarter. It's all just software on a huge screen that gets better over time.

The reality is that all cars are software driven right now. Tesla just pushes updates more aggressively (and for free instead of making you buy a new car). Higher chance a bug gets through, but you also have up-to-date safety software in exchange.

Idk, is a 4.4L twin-turbo V8 really not fast enough? Also, my understanding is that Tesla is super impressive straight line, but it can't sustain that performance. From what I see when I'm speeding like crazy and seeing other cars in the group, I see BMWs, Mercedes, Porsche, the occasional Land Rover, Jeep SRTs, etc. but I never see Teslas. This makes me wonder.

Nothing is even close to top end Teslas if you are looking for acceleration. You should test drive if you haven't already. Took out a P100D the other day. It is insane.

Track is a different story due to weight. But supposedly the performance 3 will have faster lap times than BMW M3.

So here's my dilemma. I don't want low ground clearance. When I had a few sedans and I managed to slam the bottom on various shit all the time. So I want something with some ground clearance. Just today I went hiking and the car went off a pretty big dip that would have bottomed a normal car out, but since I'm in a Jeep it was fine.

So the only Tesla that might be ok is the X but I've read a bunch of bad stories on it. Also super expensive for a P100D.

X is probably the way to go then. The S has air suspension so you can raise it a couple of inches, but probably not enough if you are taking it off road.

But like you said, X tops $100k pretty quick. If you're dropping like $80k on the BMW, might be worth a second look though. Has some really cool features, self-presenting electric doors, etc.

How much did it cost to setup charging in your garage, btw?

X6 interior is a bit nicer, but the Tesla 3 is at least on par with the 3 series (which I've driven for the past ~20 years). And touchscreen is miles ahead of competition. They have them available to test drive now.

But if you're thinking X6, perhaps you should be cross-shopping the Tesla X instead of the 3.

Yeah, looked into it. It is just way more expensive and I've been reading that Tesla can be bullshitty about the warranty (oh, I see you took the vehicle on a gravel road, so we can't cover vehicle problems). CPO warranty on BMW seems better.

I also don't trust that Tesla will be around in 10 years but do trust that BMW will.
