They all like to show off when there are neighborhood events. It's lolzy too because my wife wears jeans and t-shirts and her engagement ring was only 2K. But we probably have the highest HHI of anyone in the neighbohood and we look like we are just young kids who maybe have rich parents. Luckily she has always been well off because she married well. My real dad was a radiologist crushing it in the 80s and early 90s. Then when they got divorced she got 15k/month in child support which she would literally spend every month. Now she is married to a divorce lawyer (she's been with him for 15 years).
He makes 500K a year consistently (for the last 40 years - he is almost 70) and they live in a 3 million dollar house in Encino. He doesn't let her have a credit card and he gives her a monthly allowance to spend. Although he did buy her a Tesla. It seems to work well for them.
My 30 year old brother does tax resolution for a shady TV tax company and makes 250-500k/year depending on bonus. He also saves/invests most of his money. He has a paid off 3 bedroom condo with his wife, and another 700K in cash/retirement/investments. His net worth is slightly over 1 mil and he just has a BA from UCLA. |

I don't worry about having to buy a new car if we need to, I will not avoid a trip, fly with multiple layovers, or take a redeye flight to save a few hundred dollars on travel if plane tickets are expensive. I will spend too much money taking care of my dog. I will finally pay for valet parking to avoid driving around for 10 minutes to find street parking.
But I don't collect fancy wine, go to fancy dinners or travel all the time. I have a friend in house at google who probably makes about the same as me and he flies first class with his family everywhere.

Last year, I figured I’d go buy something nice for myself like a nice watch, but as I’ve gotten older, I stopped being interested in clothes and bags and restaurants. So prob travel is the only thing we still do occasionally spend on, but even then it’s always on a deal like 4th free night at the four seasons plus resort credit etc. we spend less on travel than most of my friends, but they don’t play the points game or look for deals.
I’m actually trying to see if there’s shit I want to spend money on, like fancy wine or fancy food, but there’s just nothing I give a fuck about. I watch tv and drink shitty wine and I’m happy.

Otherwise, if they pick their own doc, chances are they will get told to just get PT and let it heal on its own. I've been told by the docs in my network that there's no evidence that the outcomes are better with surgeries, and in fact, they have some of the worst surgical complications out there (epidural infections, paralysis, etc). He had been on crate rest, on tons of pain killers and muscle relaxants, couldn’t walk and was miserable for many months. |

At one point I was seriously considering putting him to sleep if his condition didn’t improve, he was that miserable and literally just spent all day in his crate. He went from 23 pounds to 18 bs and lost all the muscle in one of his hind legs. Only thing is he’s on anti inflammatory meds now which makes him super thirsty and he’s pissed in the house a bunch and ruined a rug. Oh well.
Your brother’s dog is so cute that I’d let him get away with being clingy. |

at work there is not enough parking so there is valet for overflow - since I am always late I always valet.
I don't tip them daily, but I give the three valets $60 each for xmas which they really appreciate.
In return my car is parked right in front of the elevator every day and they sometimes hand deliver my keys to my office when I work late. Beats the hell out of paying $200 a month to have my own personalized parking space in the building. |
