Somehow they manage to try to merge being “woke” “hippies” with the most vile type of yuppiness and seem blithely unaware of the hypocrisy. At least Boomers owned their drug/hippie/weather underground excess that swung the opposite way when they got money and swept up into the Reagan phenomenon. Boomers invented that mold, worshipped themselves and their ego, that was what really mattered no matter which direction in which it was being fulfilled. Then along comes Gen X who lacking any original thinking simply imitates a LAMER version of Boomer “hipness” (I.e, Grateful Dead v phish or Woodstock 69 v Woodstock 99) with an even more ridiculous and less rewarding version of striving because they got there too late and still mainly serve boomers TO THIS DAY. The worst part is their blase attitude about it all. At least boomers had a core - a sociopathic, evil core to be sure but there was a “there” there. Gen X at its core is the word “whatever” ringing out into eternity...not even tragically hip it’s just TRAGIC. Indifference or being directionless isn’t a virtue, it’s something to be ashamed of. They act like they have the luxury of not making a choice or trying to when in reality they’ve chose all along to simply be bystanders and copycats. You now have a generation of people who reminisce about drug fueled concerts who simultaneously wear pearls and vote totally democrat but would SHUDDER at the idea of living in a non doorman building or a non white neighborhood. Who cares because “reality bites” maaaan.... Jesus.
