I've noticed more movies being panned because of PC culture lately

This board comments on mediocre/bad films getting SJW-boosts from critics, but doesn't often discuss the opposite: decent films that because of their subject matter get bashed by critics or even just ignored.
I watched Beirut and really liked it. I wonder why it bombed and was panned by critics and started going through reviews: nearly every single one has some mealy mouthed comment about its "subject matter"; ie it managed to make Israel AND Muslims look bad. Auto-ding.
The same goes for the Death Wish remake, and, I suspect, the Sicario sequel. With Trump in office nothing that portrays Mexicans in a bad light will ever be received positively by the media.

"Death Wish: The wrong movie at the wrong time" - was one review.
Shut the fuck up and review the movie on its merits. Totally agree.

These people are incoherent. Even assuming their argument has merit, SJWs world view boils down to this:
"We're living in a real life Handmaid's Tale!!!!111"
*bashes any film, TV show or song which portrays a misogynist society*

Oh I get it now:
"It is arguable that in Ridley Scott's original the misogyny was part of the dystopia, and this sequel is just following on from that. But if 2049 is making a point about how adaptable patriarchy is to technological advance, then the problem is that it just doesn't make it. Instead of implying in any way the problematic nature of K having a holographic fantasy girlfriend/housewife, for example, the film instead humanises her role to the extent that we are supposed to believe this is a legitimate loving relationship, rather than titillation and affection slavery. It is the only real relationship in the entire film, and implies that through her sensitive subserviency and domesticated care, she is actually more human than the human women, who have become hardened 'man-like' warriors, or cynical, bedraggled whores."
They want the film (and every bit of pop culture, really) to beat us over the heads with how sexist men are.

These people would probably think Uncle Tom's Cabin is a problematic work because it shows some slave owners (the Shelby family) to be kind people.
