Yeah, I mostly agree with him on the K-State coaching hire. Nebraska shouldn’t worry about any of the regional programs when it comes to recruiting and I think the idea that K-State is going to be a threat to Nebraska in recruiting is ridiculous. I would worry about Colorado getting its act together and keeping some of their better in-state players before I would worry about someone killing it recruiting to a shithole K-State program. That is a really hard place to recruit to and there is a reason it has historically been a terrible program.
Craig Bohl’s lack of success at Wyoming should give people pause when thinking that K-State’s new coach is going to automatically translate his success at a lower-level program to K-State. With that said, I don’t think it was that bad of a hire for them. There are only so many Jeff Brohm and Matt Campbell level coaches out there. This guy has built a program in North Dakota that could probably beat a lot of programs in the Big 12 right now. I think stylistically it could be interesting because K-State’s offense will be so different than the rest of the Big 12 it could make them hard to prepare for.
What do you make of the hire?

NDSU is 20th in the Sagarin ratings, which might be analytics’ best attempt to stack up every team in Division I. That’s better than every Big 12 team except Oklahoma and West Virginia. I think Texas would beat NDSU, but it’s fair to think 2018 NDSU could compete against the whole non-Oklahoma Big 12.
In 2016, I spent some time thinking for fun about how NDSU might fare in the Big Ten West and decided the Bison would be solidly average. FBS teams have basically stopped scheduling the Bison out of fear and risk management, as NDSU’s beaten six in their stadiums since 2010. That list includes K-State itself.

K-State should have considered going the option route. They would be so different than the rest of the Big 12 that it could be an advantage. The power run offense that K-State wants to run requires some pretty dominant lines that I don’t know if K-State can develop. Look how much Stanford has regressed and how inconsistent they can be despite getting elite OL recruits every year. I agree with your assessment of the Colorado coach. He is supposed to be a good recruiter, but who knows if it is because he is recruiting the top kids in Georgia to Georgia. Recruiting to Colorado is very different.
Ultimately, Frost has the chance to create a real identity for Nebraska. Nebraska could become the Chip Kelly-era Oregon of the Midwest that kids from all over want to play for. We are already starting to see that with Wandale Robinson turning down Ohio State and Alabama for Nebraska. If that happens, fighting with K-State over marginal 3-stars is not going to be a big concern.
