My personal opinion is I love it and I get it, but I don't feel I could live there. It's like even the cities are suburb-y like, it's weird. And it doesn't have the tension I need. But it's probably one of the most beautiful places in the world and I've been around the world. I like it & love to visit. |

Also, Northerners are always sick, always in a bad mood, always in a hurry, and even when they're happy they're angry. Everyone is ugly and has bad skin and spends 1/4 of their time on Earth in a "commute." Even the rich ones aren't really rich - Oooohh wow 300k is a big salary but it's taxed over 50% with state & local taxes, then you pay 30k+ in property taxes and you have to send your kids to private school (25k+ per kid) because your public schools are indistinguishable from Mordor - that's in addition to the fact that your mortgage on that $1M 2000 square foot in [some shithole with a town name that nobody besides a Northerner is impressed with] home eats the rest of your paycheck. Since your wife works you're paying tens of thousands a year to have people who can't speak English watch your kids, kids by the way that maybe you love but it doesn't matter because you don't see them anyways. Speaking of kids, the best case scenario for them is to become a miserable wage slave like you - from there it's a short distance down to drug addict/ whore (which seems to be at least 1/4 of the white population of the North, and Italians DO NOT count as white). Also, since your wife works, and you work insane hours, the idea of "evening family dinner" is something that would take some time to explain, and you rely almost solely on strangers to prepare your food - food that for the most part is utterly repulsive.
However, when Northerners visit the South (and do they visit in droves), they bring this negativity and ugliness with them, and they spend thousands to visit places that they then proceed to trash as not good enough for them.

The animus stems far more directly from the civil war than anyone not from here would reasonably think; the war is a far larger part of our identity than the north's (which seems obvious), and we don't attach the same significance to intervening events (e.g., we recognize that slavery is wrong -- and are actively told that slavery was not the cause of the civil war, which even for smart kids seemed like the type of "don't oversimplify history" directive that's usually true -- but i never heard much talk about "jim crow" or any of that shit).
Probably the most telling thing is the tendency of schoolkids (who feel the anti-northerner animus more acutely than anyone) to lump people from Wisconsin and Illinois in with people from the northeast, because both are "the north". (Even though, obviously, midwestern culture is much closer in many superficial ways to southern culture, and is more agreeable to virtually all southerners.)
I don't agree that they perceive northerners as "jewy"; most southerners weirdly love (the idea of) jews, even if they don't know any -- a jew at my middle school would've have kids fighting to bring him to the Wednesday-night party/revival/sermon at the local Southern Baptist mega-church (12,000 weekly attendance), so that he could "ask jesus into his heart" and thus be "saved". They could watch a fucking woody allen movie and not understand that it had any connection to jewish stereotypes; it's just not something they have experience with.
Northerners are *definitely* thought of as effete little faggots though. I'd say the average southerner assumes that top-level sports (the manly ones, at least) are 70% southerner and the U.S. military is 85% southerner. |
