Just got back into Rocket League. Still the best game.

Such a 180 game. I wouldn't have expected flying car soccer to be awesome but it's very awesome. |

If you want to rank up, you'll need to learn to rotate positions (basically don't double or triple team the fucking ball, don't follow your teammates closely, and rotate back to your far goalpost any time you're not contesting the ball. There should always be someone as last defender.) At some point you'll want to learn to aerial well and consistently. Hit the ball just after it bounces off the ground for additional clearing power. |

Dudes just pack themselves onto the ball in the corners instead of defending from the goal so they can actually clear/defend. People will attack the ball when a teammate is dribbling up the field. People will flail uselessly up field with no momentum or an angle on the ball or any clue where other players are instead of getting tf out to last position.
If you focus on defense and thereby minimize open net goals, you'll rank up pretty fast. Gotta account for shitty teammates and only trust the ones who clearly know where they should be. Otherwise 80% of your missed shots will be countered in an open net goal. |

he's asian, so i guess it's not that surprising |

That way you can intercept an angle and have the momentum to do it. Being directly between the ball and middle of the goal makes it very difficult to block a fast high shot/corners, as you need to turn before committing to the save.
Maybe (probably not) he's doing that. General rule is to defend from the far goalpost area so you can fly across it. |

i've noticed the same phenomenon playing sports in real life too - there appears to be some sort of general tactical positional sense that not every man is born with, and i guess organically learns through experience. and it's really weird to play with guys who "don't get it." it's like watching a dude who "throws like a girl" because nobody ever taught him how and i guess this is something that not every male is born with either |

The second jump is for getting higher quickly.
The dash maintains your height, but hits the ball harder and makes you go faster.
If you're obviously first to the ball and it's low enough, use the dash flip to hit the ball and only use the first jump + boost to get to it. Dash flip as you connect with the ball, ideally hitting it kind of low for max distance.
If you're trying to get good at all, watch some YouTube tips. |
