Moms engaged fully in video gaming in the mid-late 80s. Many Moms beat Zelda, iirc, and many were into Tetris. But once it became apparent that gaming was an activity for Boys, particularly Loser Boys, Moms quickly bowed out and ceased gaming. If you were a kid in the early 90s, and asked your mom to be Luigi, she'd be like "helllll no!" even though only a few fortnights past, she was playing Zelda. Like many things, this occurred almost simultaneously with the fall of communism.
After a 20-year dormant period, Moms commenced playing TERRIBLE mobile games like "candy crush" and such. Idk how popular this is but statistically it probably has more players than 10 WoWs. Discuss.

cr.
Pre-NES, we had an Atari 2600 and my mom would play Space Invaders and Pac-Man and other games with me.
Once the NES came out, it was somehow beneath her to play any games on it. She did play Game Boy Tetris but that's it.
Not sure how much was due to this phenomenon and how much was just due to her getting older. She was still in her 20s when we had the Atari.

I remember my mom playing the original Super Mario Bros. with me when I was very young. I would always get very nervous about jumping over the gaps and would sometimes ask her to do that for me. Also remember her helping me learn how to play a WWF NES game after I got it for Christmas, reading from the instruction booklet to tell me how to do the special moves.
Now, she is dead.
