the 2nd phone line really is necessary though. like people above pointed out, you get so many random pointless client calls and texts outside of business hours all the time. lonely women who want to talk to you, histrionic women who freak out about small things, people who want you to answer some random non-time sensitive small question, etc. it gets pretty old if you don't have a way to filter it out |

At my old place, initially you could get a separate work phone or just use your personal phone, and then they moved completely to BYOD. At my current place, they make you get a separate work phone and there is no option to put it on your personal phone even if you wanted to.
I personally forward my office phone to my work cell uniformly, because I spend so much time away from my desk that it's not a good way to reach me. However, I have literally never gotten a call on the weekend, and almost never outside business hours (we have a couple offices in weird time zones so I do get the occasional early-morning call from Europe). |
