Question for parents who work full time and spend 8 to 9 hours at work and then some more commuting. If the baby is sleeping for 12 hours in the night and goes to day care, wont that mean that the baby will only come home from day care to sleep in the night? When do you spend time with the baby other than on weekends?
My maternity leave is going to end soon and I am already starting to miss spending all of my time with my precious little peanut.
Thank you so much.
Here are the answers....
"This is not an easy thing to accept but the truth is I don't spend most of his waking hours with him. My hope is that my husband can make a little more money in a few years but by then he'll be off to school. This is heartbreaking but a necessary part of life. Gotta pay the bills..."
"It sucks for sure. I basically decided I was leaving work early and then I’ll get back online after she goes to bed. I also try to schedule calls during my commute so that even if I’m not in the office for 8-9 hours, I’m still putting in the time. Luckily my work has been really flexible and accommodating. I also let her take her catnap on me (she doesn’t nap well at daycare so we usually have a small 5:30-6 nap when we get home). Hubby and I eat after she goes to bed so I’m not spending the little time I have with her cooking. I just try to make the most of the time we do have. No matter what, she is loved and you are doing the best you can!"
"While it not ideal, I have tried to make the time we do have quality time (quality over quantity for working moms!). He actually commutes with me, so in the morning we sing while getting dressed and having a bottle, talk and sing during the commute, and truly try to enjoy dinner, bath, book and bedtime. It's only about 1.5 non-car hours, but it's fun. I also feed him leftovers from the night before (we eat after his bedtime) so that meal prep doesn't take my attention away from him. And then weekends are amazing and I think we both enjoy them more!"
"My boy starts daycare tomorrow and I’ve cried about it three times already today. I’ll be dropping him off at 7 a.m. working 8-4:30, but with my commute I won’t be back to him until 5:45. I guess it will get easier, but I’m not sure I’ll be able to do it!"
