Cases have clearly peaked in the US and are already on the downslope. Deaths are a bit behind but will peak in the next week if they haven't already. We will not have another 2k death day again, barring a counting anomaly. Total deaths will be under 300k.

certain states will keep increasing for a while, but many places have herd immunity (see NY, Connecticut).

california is sps right BECAUSE they locked down early and didn't go through what new york did. once everyone has passed the peak, it'll slow to a crawl everywhere.

Yeah, that's an important part of the analysis that informed my poast but that I left out. Places like Texas have hit their peak but are already declining and it's obvious they're going to follow the same pattern as New York. The virus will still increase in other places and follow the same pattern, but total cases across the US will continue dipping. We may see a bump when schools open, but not enough to reverse the downtrend (it will top out below the prior peak).

The important thing is, even in places where it has already peaked, like Texas, the FRAUDVIRUS did not do shit. The peak was not very bad. It was a problem for some nursing homes and that's about it. The "mitigation" efforts have been more harmful than the virus by a factor of 30 (virus would have needed to hypothetically kill 30x as many people before all this bullshit even *started* to be worth considering). As soon as we realized that it wasn't nearly that deadly (0.1% instead of 5.0% real fatality rate, which was obvious very very early), we should have shut it all down for herd immunity and devoted just a small portion of the ridiculous amount spent on "stimulus" to fully locking down nursing homes. More lives would have been saved at much less cost to the economy.

I don't think my position would change in the slightest. I would still be railing against the idiocy of the lockdowns, the wastefulness of the stimulus, and the lack of a response heavily targeted towards nursing homes. We would probably have even more lockdowns so I would be even more furious at the ridiculous response.

This is the analogue of the "well, I guess I want open borders now." A badmo president would not turn me into a badmo.

Yes or no-- is a virus that would killed 500k max had we done literally NOTHING, and less than 100k had we locked down nursing homes and not done stupid shit like forcing homes to take infected olds, worth completely disrupting everyone's lives for six months or more, and economic aftereffects that will last years?

Another critical point -- despite weak messaging, Trump's response to the virus has actually been pretty solid.

Most of those criticizing him the loudest were against shutting down China travel. It was "racist" and unnecessary. Trump's instincts were dead on right.

More ventilators were needed (at least based on early misguided "expert" assessments of the virus). Trump mobilized U.S. industry and cranked out a staggering amount of ventilators, fully delivering on his promise to make us "king of the ventilators." Had the virus actually been harmful, his decisive action on that likely would have saved hundreds of thousands of lives.

None of the horror stories about overstaffed ICU units and doctors having to triage and decide who would live or die came to pass. Capacity was allocated just fine (although not necessarily attributable to Trump).

All of these things show that the goalpoasts are constantly shifting, and no matter what Trump does, or how few or many people die, the media will complain. Trump's biggest mistake was not stringing up fauci and birx on live TV.
