I don't think millennials and zoomers comprehend this -- how much better race relations were in the 80s and 90s. That video circulating last month of DMX at Woodstock 99 is similar in that regard: 80k white concertgoers singing out "nigga" and no one blinked an eye. It was a celebration.

When I think more about race and Predator, it occurs to me that there was no need to think about race because of the dominance of the masculinity. These were all tough-as-shit men's men. In a masculine world, racism is not really a problem. Any aggressive male will attack your weakness. If it's race, it's race. You will get called whatever names hurt you the most. An alpha like Dillon wouldn't be hurt at all by a "racial slur", so no one bothers and eventually they accept him as a fellow man.

That's how it worked on the playground in the 80s too. If some new kid arrived, and he was chink or nig, he would be taunted with those words unless or until he proved his mettle. Same if he were fat or freckled, or whatever.

I was just thinking of a similar, somewhat analogous situation/phenomenon the other day in a Sam Jackson movie from the 90's where he plays a specialist professional in a field that is incredibly exclusive and elite.

Yet no one comments on his race in the film AT ALL - which is inconceivable now with all the trite and formulaic racialized Hollywood tropes that are out there.

The reason? Because Sam Jackson's character is a fucking professional who is on a mission to handle his business and achieve his goals - His character is alpha and successful as shit and not someone like Jussie Smollet who would probably be cast in the role if the movie was made today.

The racialization/race baiting/race communism stuff works in conjunction with an assault on masculinity and lack of religion.
