President Nixon became convinced that Jewish employees of BLS were undermining him by negatively altering labor numbers.[2][3]
Orchestrated by H. R. Haldeman, Charles Colson, and Fred Malek at Nixon's behest, a list of 13 employees of the BLS with "Jewish-sounding" surnames was drawn up, along with a list of political affiliations.[1] In a letter to Nixon, subsequently referred to as the "Jew-counting" memo, Malek identified 25 Democrats and 13 other employees who "fit the other demographic criterion that was discussed".[2]
The 13 employees considered to be Jewish were demoted and sent to other positions within the United States Department of Labor, where they were deemed to be at lower risk of causing issues to Nixon.[2][4]

There were bigger problems. But no one had the guts to do anything about it.
Graham begins by advising Nixon on campaign strategy. The evangelist has been invited to lunch at Time magazine. "You better take your Jewish beanie" (yarmulke), Haldeman jokes. Nixon is in darker mood. He broaches something that "we can't talk about publicly" - Jewish influence in the media. All the big news organs are "totally dominated by the Jews".
"This stranglehold has got to be broken or this country's going down the drain," Graham solemnly declares. "You believe that?" Nixon asks. "Yes, sir," Graham replies. "Oh, boy," replies Nixon. "So do I. I can't ever say that but I believe it." Graham agrees. It can never be said publicly: "But if you get elected a second time, then we might be able to do something."

Nixon, in his phone conversation with Mitchell, also told the attorney general that he wanted him to transfer George Rosenberg, the INS district director in Los Angeles who had jurisdiction over the INS raid of the Banuelos company.
“The fellow out there in the immigration service,” Nixon said, “is a kike by the name of Rosenberg. He is out. He is to be out. Transfer him to some other place out of Los Angeles. I don’t give a goddamn what the story is! He went on television. You put him out for going on television, which is a violation.”
There followed this exchange between Nixon and Mitchell:
Nixon: “With all your other problems, there’s one thing that I want done and I don’t want any argument about it. I want you to direct the most trusted person you have in the immigration service that they are to look over all of the activities of the Los Angeles Times--all, underlined. And they are to send their teams in to see whether they are violating the wetback thing. Now let me explain, ‘cause as a Californian, I know. Everybody in California hires them. There’s no law against it, because they are there, because--for menial things and so forth. Otis Chandler--I want him checked with regard to his gardener. I understand he’s a wetback. Is that clear?”
