It takes like 3 minutes to get hot water to my kitchen sink. Someone told me I should get a recirculating pump to keep the pipes hot at all times. Am I going to get raped on energy costs of I do this? Any other pitfalls to be aware of?

We are buying a new home and it has one of these. My understanding is you can set them to turn on before you need hot water. i.e. you're laying in bed, you can turn the hot water on from your phone and let it run for a few mins while you're chilling in bed so when you get up to go turn on the shower the water is hot.
I know with the one we are getting at least, it starts to learn your schedule and will automatically turn on the water each morning around the time you wake up and turn it off after everyone has showered.
