we are getting absolutely amogged by the gooks. we've built barely anything in the past 25 years. our glory days are behind us. sort any bridge type by country and see how many from the us have been built in the 21st century. meanwhile china and tons of other gook countries are shitting out tons of them. biden's amazing trillion dollar infrastructure law and we get a pedestrian bridge in arizona and a new terminal at the boston airport. meanwhile an amtrak ticket from dc to nyc costs fifty thousand dollars and our bridges are being taken out because turdskin zergs are rushing our pylons.

it's over.

that bridge in baltimore is never going to be replaced btw. "we" are literally incapable of building it anymore. that entire city is run by niggers and there is zero chance that they will be able to build another bridge like that. they will announce that they're building it and then all the money will be embezzled, more money will be "set aside" for it, that money will be embezzled, etc. it won't ever actually happen

i think it'll be rebuilt... by like 2028 or later. looks like they're estimating the cost at like $500m. it's going to wind up costing $10b and won't be finished by 2030. get ready for 10 years of reading about environmental impact studies and shit.

we built our stuff earlier and for much cheaper. we don’t need to build new stuff when the old stuff still functions.

They’re building a new one between Detroit and Canada right now:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordie_Howe_International_Bridge

The point is this is one of the few places an additional span was needed due to international trade

1915_Çanakkale_Bridge: cost $2.7b, completed in under 5 years, longest span over 2000m

Gordie Howe International Bridge: cost $4.2b (estimated), completion time 7 years (estimated), longest span: 850m.

look i hope you're right. i'm just always shocked at the cost of expanding the nyc subway, or building california or seattle light rail. and at least one of the big bridges in michigan is privately owned which i'm sure had something to do with a sharp-elbowed developer, but makes me wonder why the usa government didn't build it first https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ambassador_Bridge

Chinese are currently the most experienced bridge builders in the world with 10 out of the top 20. US has Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge (1964) and Golden Gate Bridge (1937).

i'm watching season 2 of the wire rn in honor of THE KEYBRIDGE.

what a depressing world we've inherited. look at the biggest media in the 90s and 2000s: sopranos, the wire, fight club... it's all about how it's all over. and that era seems like a fucking utopia compared to today.

it's terrifying to contemplate what horrors await us.

i remember reading a book about skyscrapers as a kid. i learned that it became massively unaffordable to build a skyscraper past a certain height. so why do we do it? because we can.

call it hubris. but you cannot look at a skyscraper without feeling. you cannot look at a long suspension bridge without feeling awe. we don't build these things purely for utility. they are monuments.

now look at our tallest three buildings. the top one is a replacement from a terror attack. the second, central park tower, is a money laundering scheme for international elites. it's a testament to the rot of this country. nyc has homeless citizens littering the streets yet facing a world class park built for public use and enjoyment is a massive tower used to enrich the 0.1% of other countries rather than our own people. and the third is the the fuckings sears tower, over 50 years old. oh, sorry, the "willis" tower... sears, the iconic american company, was ripped apart by private equity years ago.

we built skyscrapers because people needed places to work, we built bridges because people need to get to places. this is part of why we can't have nice things anymore: we're too concerned with impressions rather than functionality, and indeed much of what we do build is actually flashy and pointless (megabillion$ for sport$ stadium fraud, the $phere, etc.)

almost every world's fair site turned to dust. the beijing olympic parks will turn to dust. but the shinkansen will run on time until japan only has three people left because they refuse to accept anything else, but americans genuinely do not give a single fuck about other americans. they do not care if trains in omaha or fucking whatever do not run on time so long as they can save tax dollars

you think the burj khalifa is built because of the utility?

c'mon now. skyscrapers and bridges have always also been about being monuments. if it was purely about utility we would have brutalist concrete buildings exclusively.

i agree something practical and impressive like a bullet train would be better than a monument like a less-than-strictly necessary bridge.

don't think anything in the middle east should be held up as something to aspire to

point is america isn't doomed because of some ambiguous notion that we "can't build", we can't build anything that would require public dollars because nobody gives a flying fuck about the country as a whole. liberals only care about catering to their identity of the month, conservatives only care about what's best for MY family and MY taxes. so we're just hoping the free market solves everything for us and once in a while it'll toss us a sphere so we shut up

i'm not saying we should aspire to that. i'm saying that every skyscraper is part-monument. and monuments aren't inherently bad. the burj is just a stark example because of just how unnecessary it is and because it's the tallest building.

i agree with everything else you've said. but me pointing out we "can't build" isn't mistaking a symptom for the cause. i agree with your analysis.

LOLZY to just notice now you could literally do this for ANYTHING: skyscrappers, metros, airports, highways, trains. Everything China is ahead now, not just a little but WAY ahead

For instance, mega skyscrappers China has 3,088 versus US 878

HSR network: China 45,000km. USA: 0

The funny thing is now even Pajeet shithole India is building 180 shit that wld blow away Birdshits. 180 airports, metros, new trains, and bridges like this in Kashmir (imagine US even building this)

https://www.hindustantimes.com/lifestyle/travel/worlds-highest-rail-bridge-in-jammu-and-kashmir-s-reasi-being-developed-as-tourist-spot-101696156457574.html

The US is in terminal decline but somehow birdshits are so brainwashed that USA is numba one and "third world" is SPS forever they cant come to terms with this. SAD! get a gripe birdshits, the only thing u number one at now is obesity, shootings and meth addiction
