Who decided to let gambling and weed run wild in the last 10 years?

consider the booze delivery apps. i'm sure they have algorithms that can detect problem drinkers. it's not that hard to guess that someone ordering a handle of popov every day has a problem. now, it's pretty despicable that they don't kick those people from the apps. but imagine if they went even further and incentivized them to consume as much alcohol as possible. that they'd get assigned a vip who would send them offers when it was clear that they were cutting down consumption. that would use all the tech possible to maximize their alcohol consumption in the way that all tech seeks to maximize everything. that's what the gambling apps are doing.
it's absolutely demonic and a huge example of how the government has completely abdicated it's role in promoting the general welfare. i never in my life thought there would be something where i was *for* more nanny-state shit. but this is it. they have the tools to identify problem gamblers. but do they use it to kick these people off the platforms? no, they use it to bilk as much money out of them as possible. it's like if a bartender was hanging around AA meetings to tempt people with free booze.
there should be some cost so engaging in vice. to get porn you used to have to at least go to some seedy porn shop. there is a reason we kept those things outside of nice neighborhoods. now you can get it right from your phone 24/7. and we've seen the consequences. gambling apps take it a step further and are intentionally designed to bilk as much money away as possible. at in person casinos there are at least some rules on identifying and not serving problem gamblers. maybe they're not well enforced, but it's better than nothing. gambling apps do the exact opposite. the spend untold millions developing algorithms to identify these people, and then bilk them as much as possible. and it's much more insidious than a comped room or something. because 1) a gambler has to spend quite a bit to get that (more likely to be gambling within his means) and 2) there is a higher cost to the casino operator.
i've been hearing a lot about how younger people are wasting all their money on this shit. it's a bigger problem then people are willing to confront right now. there is a reason why draftking ads and billboards are everywhere. that shit isn't free.
