You mean a 4% swing? That won't happen, libs are fleeing fl and cons are coming here en masse.

That said, the abortion rights law might win even with the 60% threshold.

I see, assuming that everyone switches their votes instead of staying home, which is much more likely assuming someone became disaffected with DJT. In reality, this requires a total ignorance of how most Americans are thinking now, which is evident in Biden's approval rating (terrible). In other words, Biden lost in 2020 when his approval ratings were much higher and the conservative influx into the state was barely underway. In 2024 he'll be totally crushed. By the way, your logic was used in 2022 to explain why DeSantis will lose his reelection. How did that work out?

The main candidate against RDS was running on abortion and legalized pot, so essentially yes. I also think you are going to be surprised at how many will vote Trump and then also vote yes for either or both on abortion and pot. I'm going to be one of them.

I don't get this response (or the underlying argument you are responding to), the point of this thread is that there's abortion on the ballot, why would that cause people to stay home?

Regarding "switching the vote" - I don't agree with that either. People will vote on abortion and vote for President and it won't necessarily be consistent.

However, this will help drive up additional youth/dem turnout which will maybe help Biden by a point or so, so he'll "only" lose Florida by 5 points instead of 6.

I was just responding to the idea that if voters are somehow unhappy with Republicans that they will instantly vote D is fallacious. The first thing that happens is that many stay home. I'm not implying that this is the case, but it isn't as simple as "x% will just flip their votes" - it doesn't work like that irl.

"However, this will help drive up additional youth/dem turnout which will maybe help Biden by a point or so, so he'll "only" lose Florida by 5 points instead of 6."

Ok yeah maybe. I'm not going to argue against this because we don't really disagree on the result.

Actually, it is shifting younger. It is too expensive for retirees and the big advantage (no state income tax) doesn't help retirees as much. But the younger people moving here are hard right types.

There are at least 10 pathways for Biden to get to 270 electoral votes that don't include Florida. That alone is reason Biden won't win it (unless there is a national landslide for some strange reason). Florida is a republican leaning state now, just like Colorado is a democratic state now. Things change man.
