Looking back on it, I really hated boy scouts

Date: April 11th, 2024 11:33 AM Author: Frum Know-it-all Love Of Her Life I did it all through to Eagle, but a lot of it was just shit. MY troop was shit in a lot of ways. For example, we did Philmont but instead of just going, chilling, and doing 5 miles a day like normal human beings, this is how we did it.
We chartered a bus from East coast to west coast, traveling to custers last stand and grand canyon and pleaces like that. We'd sleep in fucking church basements on the floor and all our meals were fucking fast food. I'm talking like a week of this shit.
Then, when we got to philmont, We just HAD to do the 20 mile a day option, which fucking sucked balls. Not only that, because it would get hot in the day, we would have to get up every single fucking day at 4 am and break camp and then hike our fucking twenty miles. Every fucking day for a week. I was like 15. I fucking hated it. We couldnt just chill and enjoy the place at all.
Then on return trip we had a second chartered bus, and did the same thing again, stopping off at national parks like yellowstone and shit, -- this was after two weeks of this crap -- still on a goddamn bus --still sleeping on church basement floors and eat goddamn big macs every day on the road, still wearing our goddamn uniforms every day jesus christ.
Three weeks of hell when it could have been just total chill, go there have a good time and come back--not cram in all sorts of shit while on a bus cross country to and from. |

Totally cheerless w just like soccer coaches for 48 hours at a time all weekend on those damn trips. |

Shitty as fuck external frame backs from Kmart you had to line w trash bags. The tents were troop tents pup style and they fucking SUCKED and when it would rain the roofline of the tent would sag and water would bead up and drip on your face all. Night.

The primary thing is to max out the weight & also bias it as rearward as possible. Stuff like aero & minimizing wheel friction can help too but it's pretty minor compared with getting the weight stuff right. |

It fucking sucked when I was young, I absolutely hated it. He was a piece of shit for some of the conditions he put me in. LONG stretches in the middle of the day in summer with no water until we got back to the car. Kids don't have the same stamina as adults.
We were on the streams the same day that Korey Stringer of the Vikings died of heatstroke in practice. By then I was 18 and I could handle it. That day was a walk in the park compared to what he put me through when I was 12. |

I would also make a point of not engaging with the other kids when he was around and make it apparent that I wasn't getting anything out of it. eventually he realized it wasn't having the desired effect and let me quit.
Horrible experience. just a bunch of shitty food and being forced to do uncomfortable crap in a structured setting that felt like prison. |

My kneejerk when I’m told to do something is to resist it and it was true 30-35 years ago, too. As a result, I was determined to hate all of them - even when I actually liked it (baseball), I maintained hating it and this went on for years. He was pretty stubborn but I out stubborned him.
I really wanted to play piano and guitar and he wouldn’t let me. Had to be team sports. |
