Tarantino has spoken of his love for this movie; as with most things involving Italian genre cinema, he's totally right. Probably Fulci's best (the gore movies are fun but his gialli, like this and The Psychic, are actually legitimately GOOD), and I'm convinced that this scene inspired the ear torture scene in Reservoir Dogs (I'm sure this isn't the first instance of diegetic music + graphic violence in cinema, or the only one Tarantino encountered in his trawling through sewerschlock, but it really feels like a proto-Tarantino bit) |
