a movie of that scale that's ~6 months old but you never hear about it
things fade out very quickly now but there are no memes, no scenes no clips
how do you screw up something so epic so badly

- 60yo gray grizzled Joaquin Phoenix playing 28yo Napoleon
- even at 4 hours long, impossible to capture the scope of all his crazy shit
- sure Josephine was important but typical current year forcememe to give her equal billing
- he was such an overwhelming genius that no non-autist today knows any of his "opponents" until Wellington, so it was hard to create a sense of drama or tension even though Ridley desperately didn't want to "glorify" him. There was a lot of "who the fuck is he arguing with, this is lame"
- focusing on his personal life meant missing out on capturing the bizarre world of revolutionary France and his rise in the popular imagination
- even when they showed iconic stuff like crowning himself emperor, they sort of blew past it without showing how big a "fuck you" it was to everyone previously important
- missed a golden opportunity to show the charge of the Scots greys at Waterloo
Some of the battle scenes were truly 180 though and worth watching for those alone

I so badly wanted it to be good, but it was awful.
JP was terrible, as was the script. New script + Harry Potter as Napoleon may have worked.

joaquin phoenix has one pitch - over-acting weirdo. that is not napoleon who by all accounts was charismatic as hell and full of life.
also, napoleon was not jewish.
