Do Canadians believe they made the right choice or what? What do their history books say? Seems like they had the misfortune of being the only NA territory England cared to defend that badly.

No real relationship between the Canadian colonies and the American colonies beyond limited trade. Dynamics were different, population vastly smaller and settlements more recent, also had the French and Indian presence to keep them loyal to Crown protection. Did not view Britain with hostility nor sought self-rule.

But did they foresee a very prominent internet schizo clowning on them in 2024?

What was the relationship like between New York and Virginia and South Carolina?

There's a reason the 13 colonies banded together and didn't bother with British Canada.

Canada had only just become British, and the British thought that was a huge deal back then. Some kind of endowment effect, where the colonies become more valuable if you won them in a war against France recently.

Imagine some dood in New Hampshire yelling "live free or die!", and then over yonder on the other side of the woods there's this dood who's just tapping maple trees, doesn't know what's going on and definitely isn't ready to die.

For all practical purposes there was nobody on the other side of the woods, assuming Indians don't count. You're ignoring how severely small the populations were across the vast space that is Canada at the time.

Populations weren't yuge in many other places either. There's no way you could have looked at the Maine coast and thought "that's going to be more prestigious than Newfoundland." Southern colonies had a few white people and lots of slaves. But more to the point, why would that even matter? Being less populated = British rule not so bad?
