The US government would not have sent an army platoon to a US airport to deal with terrorists (Posse Comitatus Act makes this illegal). They would have sent the FBI or other federal law enforcement.

It takes place in the Die Hard Cinematic Universe, where Posse Comitatus was modified after the "FBI" botched their Nakatomi response.

Has a counter-terrorism exception.

Also: A lawfag might have complained about this, but the POTUS would have just done it anyway under the circumstances and dealt with the legal consequences later. If somebody wants to file a lawsuit later, then let them, it will be tied up in the courts for a decade at least. Come to think of it, I'm not even sure what the remedies are if the act is violated.

federal law enforcement is so militarized though it wouldn’t have been any drop off from what the military could do in that type of situation

airports did not have tactical police in the 90s so its up for interpretation.

I’m pretty sure the shit-for-brains airport police chief referred to them as his best men at one point I could be wrong it’s been a while

Also--couldn't the President declare a national emergency over Washington DC and then invoke martial law?

cr

in real life if POTUS wanted to send troops for law enforcement for DC he'd just send the DC National Guard; the DoD has long advanced a legal theory that this is permissible, even for stuff like narcotics interdiction

I found the n00d exercise at the start of the film unnecessary and degenerate.

Come to think of it, who says they were ordered there? They're acting rogue anyway, they might have rolled up and said they were supposed to be there and nobody questioned it. Who's going to call the Pentagon to confirm?

Good point but I’m pretty sure Sen. Fred Thompson said he called for federal help so it would have been awkward when someone else showed up and Papa McDowell’s platoon was already there
