The advantage of helping this guy is that he might return the favor and ensure that you have a really easy, cool boss that will allow you to develop your career there and get a lot of recognition. If you don't then they could replace him with some shitty gunner type that will really fuck your life up.
Long term, this guy may move on and if that happens you want to be in the right position to take his place.
