No, the bear threading is incredibly ignorant. 17th century philosophers would have told you that bears only care about the actual harm posed to them by another animal. There aren't psycho bears who just want to rape and kill other bears. Humans are unique in that regard.

These great philosophers thought this was a huge fucking deal. Even Plato thought every man would break the law if he thought he could get away with it. Ancient Persians also seem to have understood this, although we have to infer it from what others wrote about them since they left no written records.
