I hate it. Always fall behind on work. All the wasted time Uber->airport->lounge->gate->plane->Uber-hotel. Can get some work done on the plane but always hunched over tiny monitor vs. bbc monitor at home or office.

A friend tells me that he occasionally blows off some steam for an hour or so but that loses its appeal over time and he says that if he doesn’t jive with the provider sometimes it’s not worth it.

Some people like living it up in First, using firm card for dinners and wine, hitting up strip clubs etc., getting away from naggy wives and kids and garbage day and dishes. Some pluses there but it still sucks in balance.

All this shit still flies at smaller firms / boutiques without entire departments scrutinizing expenses against the travel section of the handbook

very rare to be at a small firm / boutique that doesn't treat travel expenses in a shitlaw-esque manner. is any client paying for their attorney to fly domestic F these days?

the more miles u travel, the more u realize how many attractive lonely (or traveling alone) people there are-- often sitting all by their lonesome in a cozy nook like the Hotel Bellevue Palace in Bern, Switzerland

It sucks as you get older. Out of college I got one of those big4 consulting gigs where they overwork you. Got to see quite a bit of the country and stay is niceish hotels (mariott/hilton etc) in the center of the action. Was swimming in miles and points.

I would not take a job like that now. I love my multiple wfh gigs and being able to see the family all the time.

a big thing people neglect to account for is is that ur effectively working way more hours when ur traveling than at home -- if you count the time from when you start packing until the time you get back and finish unpacking, you're out of commission from your IRL that entire time.

it was fine as a youngster because it wasnt like my home was some incredible sanctuary. was just some dump studio and i got to spend my weekends there and a per diem for travel.

the truth is that you mostly get sent to dumps as a consultant. no one is going to sydney

It's obviously dying, but can't believe it isn't dying quicker.

I've had 2 attorneys try to meet in person this year. The first was local but it still seemed like a tremendous waste of time. The other flew out and the whole time i just kept thinking "you realize we could've done this over zoom right?"

it legit sucks shit when you're either in meetings or thingdoing with coworkers the entire time. not only is it tiring and annoying but you also get no actual work done and wind up with a backlog of shit when you get back.

it's not quite so bad when you end up with time to yourself to explore or whatever or at least go back to your hotel to catch up on emails and poast

I liked it for the first year or two. Felt important, didn't have many responsibilities, new cities held some novelty. The next 15ish years it was pure hell. Family losing their minds while I'm gone, work piling up in mountainous heaps. Just horrid. I don't travel too much anymore but I'm starting to like it again. I have most things at work and home locked down, no babies, and no longer give a shit if something goes haywire, I'm confident I'll be ok so why not order a fourth drink at the hotel bar and enjoy the silence.

I hate it. I hate hotel rooms, airports and packing. I assume this is where 90% of affairs happen.

I stayed on a military base a few years back. They had a cheap bar on site. Everyone was going into town and couldn't fathom why I didn't want to go. I grabbed a pitcher of beer and went back to my room and drank it in the dark. No cup.
