3. Today’s South Korea wouldn’t resemble the one we know.

* Modern South Korea is one of the world’s richest countries, with a GDP per capita comparable to many Western European nations.

* It is home to global companies like Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motor Company, LG Electronics, and SK Hynix.

* That development depended on many factors: hardworking and educated citizens, effective industrial policy, export-oriented growth, and entrepreneurship. But it also depended on a secure environment provided largely by the U.S. alliance.
