Best way to pick this up is by directly connecting with other mycophiles and learning from them. There are groups for this on social media. For example, where I live there is a huge Facebook group for people who forage for mushrooms in the area.
this was my “would you rather” q to the family/my 8 year old daughter 2 days ago. perfect mushroom identification skills or be a top tier expert falconer. my wife got pissed for some reason and thought i ruined the game. my daughter thought about it and wavered for the rest of dinner though before settling on falconer

the former is probably more useful. i see a lot of mushrooms on walks and many of them are in the "it COULD be a parasol...or it could cause my pancreas to go off like an atom bomb" grey range of risk
the only ones i can reliably do are morels
i guess a falcon could hunt small game? but nobody who isn't a career outdoorsman wants to hand-gut and clean a bunny these days
