What about current members?
As of May 2025, several current or recently serving members of Congress have faced serious allegations of sexual misconduct or inappropriate behavior. Here are the most notable cases:
⸻
1. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) – Former Representative
In December 2024, the House Ethics Committee released a detailed report accusing former Rep. Matt Gaetz of:
• Engaging in sexual activity with a 17-year-old girl in 2017.
• Regularly paying women for sex between 2017 and 2020.
• Using illegal drugs, including ecstasy and cocaine.
• Obstructing the committee’s investigation.
The report included financial records and testimonies supporting these claims. Gaetz resigned from Congress in November 2024 after being nominated for U.S. Attorney General, a nomination he later withdrew.
⸻
2. Nancy Mace (R-SC) – Current Representative
In early 2025, Rep. Nancy Mace publicly accused her ex-fiancé, Patrick Bryant, and three associates of sexual abuse and exploitation. She claimed to have discovered nonconsensual images and videos, including material featuring underage girls and herself incapacitated, after accessing Bryant’s phone in 2023. During a House hearing in May 2025, Mace displayed a censored nude photo of herself, alleging it was taken without her consent. Bryant has denied all allegations and filed a defamation lawsuit against Mace.
⸻
3. George Santos (R-NY) – Former Representative
Rep. George Santos was expelled from the House in December 2023 following multiple allegations, including sexual misconduct. The House Ethics Committee had initiated a formal inquiry into these allegations, among others.
⸻
These cases highlight ongoing concerns about misconduct within Congress. While some members have faced consequences, others remain in office as investigations continue.
