they usually have liquidity and asset requirements, better franchises chains have previous ownership/experience screening, and they have to vet your proposed market and real estate. many people who get into franchise ownership get brought in by family or other insider circumstances. it’s difficult to break into and also frequently overrated. XO loves to hold forth on how fast food franchising is a free money press but they’re speaking from ignorance, as usual. if you’re in a position to open a qdoba or whatever in a good market, then your resources can probably be better utilized elsewhere with less effort.
